It’s about fairness – it’s about survival

Take the total of all the world’s sustainable resources such as clean air, water, fuel, food, minerals and living space, allow some room for wildlife, then divide by the global human population - you arrive at what would be the fair share for each of us.  That would be One Planet Living.

But things are seldom fair.  When WWF carried out a survey of 60 UK cities recently, they discovered that the average Worcester citizen is living a lifestyle that requires the resources of 3 whole planets.  Putting it simply, we are living beyond our means, taking more than our share and damaging planet earth – our only home.  And the world population continues to grow!

This cannot go on without serious and potentially disastrous consequences for the future of our children and grandchildren.  “Business as usual” is not an option.  One Planet Worcester is calling for a change in the way we live – a change for the better.  You will find plenty of personal action points elsewhere on this website.  Please help!

But even when we have done our best as individuals, we would still be a 2 Planet Worcester because we share a common city “footprint”.  Public services, schools, hospitals, transport and the business community use up one extra planet’s worth of resources.  These too will need to change, which is why One Planet Worcester has joined the Worcester Alliance to help move Worcester towards a fairer, sustainable future.

There is a model for a fairer, survivable future.  It is called Contraction and Convergence.  You can find out more [ here ]
